Quercetin: It could be your immune system\'s new BFF

All about quercetin, the super supplement!

Wait, what is quercetin?

Quercetin isn’t a health supplement that’s widely known, and many would find it hard to say (hot tip: it’s pronounced like kwur-seh-tin). For those unfamiliar with quercetin, it’s a newly popular supplement and may be a fantastic addition to help strengthen your immune system. This means it may help protect against some types of virus, and offer a few surprisingly positive side effects.

This incredibly abundant flavonoid can be found in several raw fruits and veggies, including capers, cilantro, grapes, kale, cherries, and red onion, which contains its highest concentration. It can also be accessed in natural herbs like American elder, St. John’s wort, and ginkgo biloba.

So, what’s the big deal about quercetin?

Quercetin is a promising supplement due to its long list of potential benefits for overall health, with research suggesting it may offer immune-boosting, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antioxidant properties. It may also provide support in the fight against several illnesses such as cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, and perhaps even cancer.

And that’s not all. Studies have suggested quercetin may also reduce the severity of allergic reactions. One study found this fantastic flavonoid may have the ability to inhibit the release of histamines in the body, resulting in decreased allergy symptoms. It can be an amazing help when spring allergy season comes out swinging.

What’s the best way to take it?

Quercetin is one of the most plentiful antioxidants found in our diet and, including all the foods mentioned above, any products that are produced from them, such as red wine, grape jelly, or a simple veggie salad! Your local health food store will also have it in supplement form, perfect for convenience and for taking on a regular basis.

Try consulting your natural health practitioner to find out how beneficial quercetin can be for you and for more ways to incorporate it into your diet. In the meantime, treat yourself to a nice glass of wine, knowing you’re getting a dose of this super supplement!
